So, people daily drive these things?
By Whitney Ellis
It took forever to get a job – nearly a year. But, the time between me accepting one and starting seemed to happen in an instant.
I needed to fly down to Charlotte and find a place to live ASAP. I flew in between Hurricane Florence and Tropical Storm Michael – and the rental car agencies at the airport were trying to fill reservations as quickly as they could.
And that’s how I ended up with a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Sport.
There are tons of people out there that are tired of the nanny-like safety options in cars, and even more that don’t like all the in-car entertainment that drivers can get bored with. If you are one of those people, this Jeep Wrangler Sport is for you.
No automatic lights, no radar cruise control, no Bluetooth pairing – no frills. Hey, it makes drivers pay attention to the road at all times. There’s nothing saving you but your attention span.
But, that’s about the only good (if you call it good) thing about this Jeep.
I’ve got friends that have these – it’s a lifestyle. And for those people… hey, this works. If you go off road, I’m sure that’s where the Jeep truly shines. I’ve seen videos where you modify these (and there are plenty of parts and parts suppliers available), they’ll climb over just about anything.
That being said, if those people were honest, they’ll say off-roading is the only reason to have something like this. If this is your only vehicle, man… it’s tough.
It rained for the two days I was there on an apartment-finding mission and in those two days I fell right out of love with the “Jeep lifestyle.” It’s not comfortable, it’s loud, drafty and not great on gas. During heavy rains, it sounded like you were in a building with a metal roof. There’s no soundproofing, so you’re going to have to turn up the subpar audio system to drown out the beating on the Jeep.
If this is your weekend cruiser, you’ve probably hit the jackpot. Weekend cars are supposed to be showy and with so many parts out there for these things, you can customize this to your heart’s content.
But as a daily driver – you have to be crazy, man.
