Remember kids, nothing good happens after midnight – nothing.

I’m typing this late at night… and it’s because for some insane reason I had an idea pop in my head after a training session that was bad.
Summer speedwork was miserable this afternoon. It was 95 degrees when the group started its four 1200-meter runs. Halfway through the last one I bonked. As I was starting to walk/run the last lap I had a series of random thoughts come through my head:
“Why am I doing this?”
“Why is it so hot?”
“Am I about to throw up?”
“How about doing a triathlon?”
Yep. I don’t know exactly why this last thought came into my head… and why it continues to be in there. The good thing is there are plenty of Sprint or Olympic triathlons around that I can do. The bad thing… well, I swim like a wounded elk. So I’ve got to work on that.
But I’m thinking more than just a Sprint or Olympic length. I’m thinking a Half-Ironman. Yep – a 1.2 mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride and a half marathon. So… now I’m looking at what Half-Ironmans I can participate in sometime in late 2019.
I’m thinking that will be my next big goal. Right now, the tools have been acquired – I’ve been riding my TT bike more lately (the road bike is in the shop), and hopefully with the number of triathlons going on between now and then (if I’m still in the area) I can get plenty of practice.
Am I really doing this? I think I’m really doing this.
